Christianity differs from other faiths in many ways. The one area in which this difference cannot be more striking is prayer. True Christian prayer distinguishes itself from all others by its mediation. Christian prayer is offered to God the Father, but uniquely by the mediation of Christ Jesus. Essentially, this is what is meant by the prayer conclusion “IN THE NAME OF JESUS.”

Sola 5 Sermon of the Week No 30-2008

Scripture reading: Is 29:1-24, 1Cor 8:1-13, Mat 5:13-16
Title: Beware of the Danger of Asceticism
Text: Col 2:20-23

The world cannot do without religion – but since it rejects the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and Christianity it has to find something else to put in its place. There is this vacuum within each one of us that seeks after God that needs to be filled, and there will always be those who are willing to offer you something (normally at a price) that will seek to fill that desire for God, for religion, and for spirituality. It is the Romans 1 passage all over again.

Title:  The Beatitudes
Scripture reading:  Matthew 5:1-12

Introduction

We saw in the opening sermon of this series that the burden of Sermon on the Mount is to reveal true righteousness in order to counter Pharisaic righteousness of that day. But this sermon should also be seen as an introduction to the whole of the gospel according to Matthew. We will commence with individual Beatitudes next week but today I will just give you an overview of all the Beatitudes. First we shall be stating generally what the Beatitudes are and then their outworking in a believer.
